Studio Policy

To embark upon the study of an instrument requires the dedication of the instructor and an investment of time and energy of the student (and parents as the case may be). When these two elements are properly combined, it inevitably leads to a lifetime of musical enjoyment.  Therefore, the time that the instructor shares with the student is vital in that it shows the student how to practice over the week and directs them along the path of success.  In order to clarify what is expected of the student prior to the first lesson, we have made the following policies-

1.                  All lesson fees are payable one month in advance (due the first lesson of the month).

2.                  A lesson will be excused for emergencies only.  When one undertakes study of a musical instrument, it is with the understanding that it is an ongoing commitment to continuing progress.    The following examples constitute what is excusable and what is not:

                        Excused

-Acts of God (like an earthquake)

                        -Medical emergency in the family

                        -Serious illness

                        -Vacations with two-week advance notice

                        Unexcused

                        -Lack of transportation

                        -Didn’t practice for the week

For further details, please contact us.

3.                  Cancelled Lessons

-An excused absence requires that a make-up lesson be scheduled. Lessons that cannot be rescheduled at the teacher's convenience will be credited toward the next month.

-Unexcused or last minute cancellations (within 24 hours) and ‘no shows’ will necessitate charging the full lesson fee for the unused time reserved for the student.  Make up lessons will not be given in these situations.

4.                  Discontinuing Lessons

-One month’s notice is required for students discontinuing lessons for any reason.

5.                  Practice

After a student has been accepted for study, it is expected that practicing is part of the agreement.  Practice time should be monitored on a weekly basis.  Only consistent practice over the week will yield positive results. (Consistently cramming practice time into one or two days a week, on the other hand, will most assuredly make you a short-term student.)

6.         Finally, promptness for lessons is essential; since we schedule our teaching in blocks, arriving late for a lesson means a shorter lesson for you.
